Differences in Happiness-Increasing Strategies Between and Within Affective Profiles

In well-being research, positive and negative affectivity, have emerged as fundamental dimensions of human flourishing. The positive affect is a dimension that moves from pleasant engagement (e.g., enthusiastic and active), to unpleasant disengagement (e.g., sad and bored).

Individuals high in positive affect are characterized by enthusiasm, activity, alertness, “hardiness” (i.e., control, commitment and challenge), and experience a greater appreciation of life, feel more secure and confident, and have more positive social relations. The Goal Matrix Developing Shared Cognition in Teams - A Model

The current issue also hosted a highly valuable review article that was based on extant literature related to “shared cognitionin teams,” usually represented as goal matrix. The article published by Jacobsson described the theories and principles that are used for the development of the model.

The Goal Matrix

The article presents a brief overview of the internal standards, external standards, development goals, operative goals as well as the guiding stars and vision behind the development of the model, which will help in furthering its practical implementation. Agazarian describes in her “Theory of living human systems” contextualizing as a way to develop a systems (e.g. a team) function.  Read More>>>>>>>>

E-cigarettes are considered a revelation for rehabilitating people addicted to smoking. The article published by Miler et al. presented the results of an online survey that was intended towards assessing the real time efficacy of these e-cigarettes and monitoring the rates of increased incidence of respiratory infections. The results obtained from the survey did not indicate towards increase in the rates of respiratory infections.

Altogether 941 responses were received. Overall, 29% of responders reported no change in respiratory symptoms, 5% reported worsening, and 66% reported an improvement(95% CI=62.9-69.0). There were 247 qualitative responses commenting on improvements or worsening in the rates of respiratory infections after switching from smoking to vaping. Are Women Sensitive to the Acute Anxiolytic Effect of Diazepam?

The ovarian hormones as all steroid hormones are synthesized from cholesterol, and due to its lipophilicity, have easy access to all cells and organs, including the central nervous system (CNS). At the cerebral level, these hormones influence the function of many nervous cells, playing an important role in coordinating a number of physical and behavioral changes related to reproductive cycle.

However, studies are highlighting the critical role that ovarian hormones may have on the organization of non-reproductive behavior, especially in response to stress and anxiety. Progesterone, in the corpus luteum, is converted into, among other metabolites, allopregnanolone (3a-hydroxy-5a-pregnan-20- one), which is secreted under stimulation of the luteinizing hormone (LH) and readily crosses the blood brain barrier. It has been demonstrated that the 3a-hydroxysteroid is a potent anxiolytic, anticonvulsant, sedative/hypnotic and anesthetic, which exerts its effects through allosteric modulation of the gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA) receptor complex. Case Presentation: In order to facilitate the locating process, the following case presentation is based on what the psychoanalyst felt, how he reacted, what he answered then, both as object and subject of a “return transference”. Indeed, it is from such returns in the transference and with the help of other analysts that the sudden emergence of affects in the analyst gradually became more defined and could be worked out, so as to then and only then helps the patient whose story follows. Physical exercise paradigms imply remarkably complex biological reciprocal interactions, invoking polygenic intercommunication within cells, tissues/organs, systems, with conspicuous cross-talk occurring among the elements of cardiovascular fitness and different expressions of health and wellbeing Ruegsegger et al.
